Avani Avittam *Samaveda

Samaveda Brahmins celebrate an event in Kerala named Avani Avittam *Samaveda. It is also celebrated in Tamil Nadu and Telangana. The Tarpanam is presented by the Tamils people to the ancient seers to honor them. All Tamil people wear the new thread, and the old thread is removed from the hand. It is said that one who will tie Avani Avittam Thread on the festival after Puja is gifted with a long life from God.

Sins forgiveness

The Mantra Chantra is the activity performed on this day. The main purpose of performing this activity is to clear all the sins, whether they were committed in the past or present. The prayers are presented to the Gods for ancestors’ salvation and to clear their sins. If you offer prayers for the ancestors, they feel happy as their sins will be cleared due to your Vishnu prayers.  

Holy thread

One who will wear the new thread on the event and remove the old thread from their hand will be gifted with a long life, and God will bless him also. The other purpose of wearing the thread is to remain protected from evil eyes. The foods presented after the event are called Nei Appam, Paal Poli, and Purana Poli. 

God prayers

After clearing all the sins, people offer prayer to God. The thread is also presented to God as a gift to him. Before offering him prayers, the worshipper must wear the new religious dress. The Puja is also presented on the Avani Avittam *Samaveda in respect of the Top Gods, especially Vishnu, for the personal blessings and blessings for the ancestors.
