Avani Avittam

Avani Avittam is the event of Hindus celebrated by the Brahmins related to Kerala and a Kerala-related city named Tamil NADU. All the Brahmins do not give importance to this event, but Yajurvedi Brahmins greatly celebrate it. In 2022, it was celebrated on the 11th of August. It has various names in various cities of india; in cities of india situated in the south, it is called Upakarma. 

Thread changing ceremony on Avani Avittam

On this festival, the thread worn last year’s event day is changed, and a special ceremony called the thread changing ceremony is arranged for this purpose. It is arranged on the edges of holy rivers or ponds. People who have to change their holy thread participate and remove the old thread to wear the new one. This activity is important and removes all the sins of thread-wearing by Vishnu salvation.

Rituals performed on Avani Avittam

Manters of Vishnu are recited in the temple in front of Vishnu idols. Recitation of Manters is called a Chanting activity and is organized with great devotions in the temples. Other than thread-wearing acts, prayers are also offered to God to clear ancestor’s sins. Brahmin must wear the thread, get up before sunrise, and move to holy rivers for a holy bath. After bathing, he has to come to the temple to worship Vishnu, and after Vishnu worships, a thread named Janeyu will be worn by him; as a result, all sins will be forgiven by God
