Bhanu Saptami 9 july
July 9, 2023
Bhanu Saptami is a festival celebrated in Hindu communities to offer worship to the Sun, who is known as their holy deity Suraya. It is also called Suraya Saptami, and is observed on the Spatami Tithi, which in 2022 fell on May 22nd in India, particularly at Vishnu temples.
Bhanu Saptami (Significance)
The significance of Bhanu Saptami lies in its belief that by offering fast and worship to the Sun on this day, all health-related issues of the worshipper are resolved, and they receive blessings from the Sun. Bhanu, who is an avatar of the Sun, is also worshipped on this day, and the worshipper who seeks Bhanu’s blessings will receive wealth and prosperity in life. Additionally, it is believed that sins are cleared through Sun-Bhanu worship.
Bhanu Saptami (Routine acts)
To observe Bhanu Saptami, all sun worshippers must wake up before sunrise and take a bath in the waters of the Ganga or Yamuna river. They then come to the temple to offer Puja to Vishnu and Parvati, and perform the main activity of Arghya, offering water to the Sun as it appears for its blessings. Throughout the day, the worshipper must recite Mantras and Katha, with the Suraya Mantra being a specific chant for this occasion. It is important to note that salt is prohibited while breaking the fast.
