August 17, 2023 @ 6:44 pm - 7:29 pm IST
Chandra Darshana is a Hindu festival in which the moon is worshipped by viewing it after the Amavasya. It is a significant religious event for Hindus, where prayers are offered to the Moon God for success in life. The festival is celebrated at night when the moon appears, and the fast of this event is called the night moon fast.
The main ritual of this festival is to worship the moon at night, and the deity honored on this day is called Chandra Dev. Fasting people can consume food products during the night and the moon’s appearance. The fast is concluded by offering Puja to Chandra Dev. After the ritual acts, a charity activity is held, in which sugar and rice are donated to all Brahmins in the temple. Fasting people go to the Yamuna for a holy bath.
Many people, especially women, observe the fast to seek the well-being of their children and to remove obstacles from their life journey. Moon worshippers believe that their lives are directly influenced by Chandra’s blessings, and by offering prayers, evil deeds are removed, and adverse changes are handled in life. It is believed that a person who is suffering from severe diseases must observe the Chandra fast to recover from all illnesses. Reciting Chandra Mantras results in knowledge and wisdom, and one’s life is blessed with the Moon’s blessings.
