Rituals related to Dhanteras

One of the most important rituals is performing Puja after taking a bath at midnight. People decorate their homes and offices with flowers and diyas, and clean them before starting the decoration. They also prepare sweets and other food items as offerings to the deities. The Mandaps or temporary structures made for the worship of Goddess Lakshmi are also decorated with colorful fabrics and other materials.

People who worship Lord Vishnu offer Satvik food, which is his favorite food, and present it during the Puja. Bhog Prasad, which is a special offering made of Elaichi and other ingredients, is also prepared and presented to Lord Vishnu. Additionally, diyas are lit using desi ghee and tulsi leaves powder and presented to both the deities as a symbol of devotion.
