Dharo Atham

Dharo Atham is the festival of Hindus celebrated in Bhadrapad according to the Hindus calendar. It is mostly honoured in Gujrat, and during this event’s celebration, the moon’s phase is the waxing phase. In 2023, it was celebrated on the 23rd of September. All Gujrat people celebrate it by heart and offer various ritual acts to Dharo for blessings and the well-being of their children. Before this event, Shukla Paksha is celebrated in Indian cities. 

Rituals related to Dharo Atham

On this festival, all the Dharo worshippers came to the temples and offered worship to Dharo. Dharo idols are decorated with grass and green clothes. In the first ritual act, Ashirwaat is presented to him. After Ashirwaat, a prayer ceremony is started in which all Dharo worshippers offer prayer to Dharo to get Dharo blessings from him. At the end of all acts, Dharo stories are recited in the temple to praise Dharo. Idol makers made the idols and coloured them for a beautiful look; simple idols can also be used for God worship. 

Blessings for Dharo Atham worshippers 

Married and unmarried women started to offer fast to Dharo as Bhadrapad began. Foods are cooked and presented to Dharo in the temple for his blessings. The fasting person receives happiness in life. Unmarried girls are blessed with the husband they want, while the married are blessed with special Dharo gifts for their families. In the end, Charity activity is performed as a result of which offering persons are blessed with wealth.
