Durga Ashtami 21 October

Durga Ashtami is a significant occasion observed during the holy month of Ashwina, also known as Maha Ashtami. It is celebrated under different names in various regions of India, with some cities using the original name while Uttar Pradesh refers to it as Maha Ashtami. The central ritual of the day is Durga Puja, which takes place in temples.

Celebrations on Durga Ashtami 

One of the highlights of the festivities is the Satvik Dish, a special dish prepared for the occasion. It consists of different food items such as Halwa and delicious Poori. During the event, Saptashati Paath, a collection of recited verses, is recited. A Diya is also lit using Sarso oil and offered to the Goddess Durga.

The Bhog Prasad, a special offering, is only made to Durga Maa. Another significant aspect of the day is the invitation of nine girls to the temple. These girls must be above ten years old and come from poor families. Their invitation is considered part of the day’s festivities, and they are given unique gifts and their Poja is performed, allowing them to receive blessings from Goddess Durga.
