Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival celebrated in India and in countries with Hindu populations. At the end of the ten-day festival, Ganesh Visarjan is performed, during which the idols of the Ganesh God are taken from the markets and worshipped. As the worship comes to a close, the festival also ends and the idols are taken to the banks of holy rivers, where they are washed and placed in temples for future worship.

Acts related to the Ganesh Visarjan

During the Ganesh Visarjan, devotees begin by taking a bath in holy rivers before starting the worship. They place tilak in the pooja bowl and offer flowers to the Ganesh during the puja. Bhoog prasad is offered to Lord Ganesh, and is often distributed among the temple’s members.

Different kinds of idols are taken to the temple during the festival, including those of Ganesh, Vishnu, and other lords. Parvati idols are worshipped after the festival ends. Only four idols are taken to the temple and are returned to the people who brought them at the festival’s end.

Certain rituals are performed during the Visarjan, including the offering of oil lamps and gandh to Lord Ganesh. Dancing is also a part of the celebrations, with people dressed in yellow and beating drums as they offer dance before the idols of the Lord.
