Jandhyala Purnima, also called Janai Purnima, is celebrated in various cities of India, especially Andhra Pradesh. In 2022, it was celebrated on the 12th of August. On this day, Thread wearing ceremony is arranged in which women wear threads to men and men offer Thread to women, and this activity is considered auspicious on this day. Dwijulu mostly celebrates the Thread wearing ceremony.
Thread-wearing ceremony on Jandhyala Purnima
Thread-wearing ceremony is considered the main activity of this day as it is considered important for removing all sins of a person, whether they were committed in the past or the future. On this day, newly washed clothes from the ancestor’s homes are offered for their salvation, and due to this act, their sins are cleared. There is an old thread called Jeerna Yagnopavitham, taken important for the blessings of Vishnu, and it is placed in homes for God’s blessings.

Mana Sankalpam considered an important Manter of this day, is recited in Shiva Manders. For the removal of Jeerna Yagnopavitham, Manters related to Jeerna Yagnopaveetha are repeated in Manders. Sins of thread removal and wearing person are cleared, and his ancestors are also blessed due to wearing of Jeerna Yagnopavitham Cloth. Before event rituals, Jeerna Yagnopavitham is taken to the temple and washed in Ganga for holiness. Jeerna Yagnopavitham is also presented to Vishnu and Shiva idols, and after giving them, prayers for success are offered, which are also accepted according to a few religious persons.
