Janmashtami *Smarta is the day celebrated to commemorate the birth of Krishna. Although it’s not a public holiday, some institutions in India may offer an optional vacation. Temples perform various rituals related to Krishna, including Puja offerings.
Rituals related to Janmashtami *Smarta
The main ritual of the day is bathing, where people gather on the banks of holy rivers to take a holy bath for Krishna’s blessings. Fasting is also observed for over twelve hours, and the Parana activity is performed to break the fast. Krishna Puja is also offered during the fast.
The Bhoga food offerings consist of rice and white sweets, which are taken by the fast-offering person and can also be consumed by others. Prasad food is distributed, and the Bhoga can be distributed as Prasad as well. Prasad is mainly given to the poor.
To receive unlimited blessings from Krishna, a special food material is offered. Tulsi leaves are added to fresh cow milk and presented to Lord Krishna.
