Kalashtami is a Hindu festival celebrated in honor of the god Shiva’s avatar form, Kaal Bhairava. Devotees perform Kala worship to seek his blessings, and some even observe a fast to please him. They also take a holy dip in the Ganga river before performing the Kala rituals. This day is also known as Bhairava Jayanthi as it marks the birthday of Kaal Bhairava.

During Kalashtami, Shiva temples are adorned, and Kala idols are covered with black cloth for the puja ceremony. After the puja, they recite Bhairava Mantras and recite the Katha to praise him. Devotees also wash the Bhairava idols in the Ganga river and offer food and new clothes to the poor.
