Kalashtami is the Hindu gala celebrated in honor of Shiva avatar God form, Kaal Bhairava. Worships named Kala worships are presented to Kala Bhairava for his blessings. Kala’s followers present fast to him to make him happy. Kala worshippers go to Ganga to take a Bhairava bath and to get holy for performing Kala rituals. This day is also celebrated as the birthday of Kala Bhairava, due to which he is also called Bhairava Jayanthi.
Celebrations on Kalashtami
Shiva temples are decorated, and Kala idols are wrapped in black clothes for the puja act. Black dogs in the idol form are taken to the temple to offer Puja to them by considering the Bhairava vehicle. A fast related to Bhariava is called Vrat and is presented to get happiness and wealth. It is the best day to get the blessings of Shiva by worshipping his idols after the Puja of Bhairava idols.
Rituals performed on Kalashtami.
- After taking a bath, come to the temple and offer prayers to Kala for Bhairava’s blessings.
- Offer prayers to Shiva for getting Shiva’s blessings and ancestor’s salvation.
- After performing Bhairav Puja, recite Bhairav Manters before the Bhairava idol.
- Katha is recited after Manter’s recitation for praising Bhairava as a ritual activity.
- In the end, gifts are given to Bhairava idols, and his idols are washed in the Ganga river.
- Black animals, especially dogs, are worshipped, and Puja is presented to them.
- Worships dogs after kala Puja as these are considered vehicles of Bhairava.
- Food products and new Kali dresses are given to Poor kala worshippers in the donation activity.
