Kamada Ekadashi 1st April
April 1, 2023 @ 1:28 am - April 2, 2023 @ 3:49 am IST
Among all the Ekadashis celebrated by Hindus, the first one is known as Kamada Ekadashi. It is preceded by the festival of Chaitra Navratri and Rama Navami. The main ritual on this day is fasting, which begins on the day of the festival and ends on the next day. This fast is believed to absolve the sins of the devotee and protect them from malefic planetary effects.
Kamada Ekadashi holds great significance as it purifies the mind of the devotee, helps them lead a virtuous life, and fulfills their desires. It is believed that the fast also helps clear the sins of the ancestors of the person observing the fast. The fast is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is known as Kamada fast.
The fast is observed for 24 hours, during which only certain food items, such as Moong Dal, are allowed. Before starting the fast, the person observing it must take a dip in a holy river. In the temples of Lord Shiva, the Narayan Katha is recited, and in the temples of Lord Vishnu, devotional songs are sung.
According to traditional beliefs in India, the wishes of the devotee observing the fast are fulfilled on Kamada Ekadashi due to the power of the fast.
