July 12, 2023 @ 5:29 pm - July 13, 2023 @ 5:54 pm IST
Kamika Ekadashi is a significant day for Vishnu worship among Hindus and is considered one of the 24 Ekadashis. On this day, special fasts are observed in honor of Lord Shiva. The Shiva temples are washed with water mixed with red and yellow flowers, while Vishnu temples are rinsed with hot water and mixed with fragrant flowers. Devotees visit the temples of the respective gods and perform certain rituals.
Customs on Kamika Ekadashi
The customs of Kamika Ekadashi include bathing in holy rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna to seek forgiveness for one’s sins. Poja activities are also part of the festival, but one must offer them with a pure heart and devotion to receive blessings from Lord Vishnu. Fasting is another ritual, and one must eat little grains before starting the fast and strictly avoid food items throughout the day. The fast will only be accepted if the person refrains from committing any sins.
During the Puja, food and flowers are offered to Lord Vishnu, which are later distributed among the poor. The flowers are also used to decorate Diyas, which adds to the beauty of the tradition.
