Kanni Sankramam

Kanni Sankramam is the Sankranti event Hindus celebrate after the fifth month but at the start of the sixth month, according to the Hindu calendar. Various activities are performed at this event, but the Dan Punya activity is important. Activities of this festival are not arranged from the festival’s start time to the end, but a time is fixed for the event rituals. The time before the start of this Sankranti, and after all, Sankranti celebrations, is called the time for performing Sankramam rituals.

Sun transition on Kanni Sankramam

There is the transition of the sun from one Rashi to the other, marked on this day. Rashi, where the sun starts to move to another, is called Simha Rashi, while the Rashi where Sun enters is called Kanya Rashi. Due to the sun’s entry in the Kanya Rashi, this Sankranti is called Kanni Sankranti. Worships are presented to the sun in the Indian cities named Bihar and Orissa. For offering sun worship, Bihar and Orissa temples are decorated. Sun Puja is a prominent worship among all worships of the sun.

Celebrations on Kanni Sankramam

The Hindus perform various celebrations according to their culture. Sun worshippers move to the Ganga for holy baths and wear yellow dresses. A fasting person cannot eat food at the end of Sankranti time. As the Sankranti time ends, Brahmins and animals, especially Mata, will be fed. Vishnu idol is called the Sun idol on this gala, so yellow flower garlands are given to him to get the sun God’s blessings.
