Karadaiyan Nombu

Karadaiyan Nombu is the day women celebrate in a marriage relationship with men. The central organization of the day is fast. Married women and their husbands offer this fast. The women offer fast for the husband’s salvation, and the men offer fast for the women’s salvation. The cities in which the festival is organized are Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Other than these cities, it is also organized in the cities where the Tamil communities are present.

Karadaiyan Nombu Fast

Fast is presented at the event by the married women. The primary purpose of this fast is to get long life from the Gods—most women show fast to the Parwati for the Parwati blessings. The unmarried women also present this fast for marrying someone. Men fasting aims to get Parwati salvation for all family members. This fast is also related to the Savitri Fast, presented at the Savitri Puja event. 

Karadaiyan Nombu dish

The cooked dish at this event is called Nombu Adai. The items used while making the ADAI foods are water mixed in the green chili. Bread made of rice flour is made to offer to Parwati as a gift of her. After cooking the entire Adai dish, it is taken to the Parwati temple and offered to the Parwati. According to a few Tamils, the Parwati feels happy with this Adai dish. After all the ceremonies, it is distributed among the Adai dishes lovers, and the festival concludes with the presenting prayers to the gods, especially Parwati Goddess.
