Kojagari Puja

Kojagari Puja is the essential ritual day of Hindus on which Devi is worshipped. Purnima on which it falls is called Sharad Purnima, and in a few Indian states, it is also called Kaumudi Vrat. In 2023, it will be performed on the 28th of October. Various worships are presented to Devis on the night of this Puja day, and according to the Moon followers, rays of moonlight at this event night bring blessings from the moon, and the Moon and Lakshmi devi followers are blessed with it.

Lakshmi is the worshipped Devi on this festival day. Lakshmi idols are decorated, and Puja is presented to them. There are eight Lakshmi shapes, all of which are honored with the Lakshmi Puja. Dhanalakshmi is the most revered form of Lakshmi, and Kheer is presented to her on this day. At night, the moon is also worshipped and cooked. Kheer at the day is offered to the moon for blessings and salvation from the moon after death.
Ritual acts related to Kojagari Puja
- Take idols of Lakshmi Devi to the holy river edges and give them a bath in the sacred water. After bathing, wrap them in the new or last year’s used clothes for Lakshmi and decorate them with ornaments.
- After Lakshmi worships, perform rituals related to the Purnima of the day and recite Manters. Aartri lines and Katha terms written on the temple walls or the idol dress should be recited for the goddess’s blessings. In the end, repeat Bhajans for Lakshmi’s blessings.
