Makaram Sankramam is festival celebrated among hindus communiy dedicated to Suraya. Suraya worshipped God after Shiva, and he is also called the God of Success. People offer worship to him for getting Suraya’s success from him. During this event, the Sun moves into Rashi named Makara Rashi. According to the gregorian calendar, it is celebrated on the 14th of January, and Sun is also worshipped on this festival.
Reason for celebrating Makaram Sankramam
As the Sun is transitioning into a Zodiac sign on this festival for this purpose, Sun is worshipped in the morning of the event during the rising of the Sun. It also shows the end of winter and the start of summer in India. To offer Puja to Sun, Puja offering person gather in open ground and offer Puja to Sun by taking the sun Puja bowl in their hands. At this event, crops grown last year are also harvested, and with the yield of those crops, Satvik food is cooked.
Significance of Makaram Sankramam
This is the day when the Sun shows its motion to the north direction of the equator line. As the Sun reaches the top, Chant Manters are offered to him after taking a holy bath in the sacred river named Ganga and Yamuna. This day is specifically for paying thanks to Sun for his light blessings. Donations are also given to the poor after paying Puja to the Sun, and food like rice is cooked to break Sun fast on this festival.
