Makaravilakku

The event celebrated in the auspicious month of Kerala by Hindus is called Makaravilakku. On this day, Ayyapa God is worshipped, and the worship related to this festival is also arranged in the Ayyapa temple. Ayyapa temples are present in the famous city of India named Sabarimala. Dieities are taken from the temples, and ornaments called Thiruvabharanam are worn to them.  

Celebrations of Makaravilakku festival

• People move to the open ground to see the sun as it is transmitted from one Rashi to the other. Rashi, from which the sun moves to enter the other, is called Dhanu Rashi, and the Rashi from which the sun transits is called Makara Rashi. Dhanu Rashi is also called Sagittarius, while the Makara Rashi is called Capricorn. 
• Worships related to this festival are started in the evening time Ayyapa idols and ornaments associated with Ayyapa are also taken to the top point of the hill. All the decorations are worshipped, and Puja to him is also presented at the Top hill point. At the time of Ayyapa worship, Ayyapa appeared in the sky and awarded worshippers with fruit.  
• After this event, fast are presented to Ayyapa for more than 40 days, and fasting persons come to the temples of Krishna to offer Puja to him. After offering Darshan to Ayyapa and Krishna, the offering person walks in front of Ayappa and recites his Manters. Climbing on the hill by footsteps during this event is also considered auspicious.
