Matsya Dwadashi

Matsya Dwadashi is the day celebrated in honor of Vishnu in India by Hindus. Before this festival, Mokshada Ekadashi is arranged in Vishnu temples, and Puja to Vishnu is presented. Last year, this Dwadashi was set on the 4th of December. This day is also celebrated as the birthday of Vishnu, as it was the day when Vishnu came to earth in the form of Matsya. In 2023, this Dwadashi will be presented on the 24th of December.

The paramount significance related to this day is the forgiveness of sins by Vishnu of a worshipping person. One who offers fast to Vishnu on this festival, all his sins are cleared, and Vishnu blesses him with blessings like happiness and wealth. The worshiper also receives salvation from Vishnu, and his ancestors are also blessed due to his Vishnu worships. This day is also considered necessary for the fulfillment of desires. 

Ritual works performed on Matsya Dwadashi.

  • Matsya worshippers take a bath to start ritual works related to this day. 
  • After taking a bath, Sun prayers are presented to the sun. 
  • While presenting prayers to the sun, Mantra named Om Ghrani is recited. 
  • As Surya is another shape of Matsya, it is also worshipped on this festival. 
  • Vishnu idols are taken to the temple and decorated with lights for Puja works. 
  • Fish Dish is the most cooked dish on this festival, which is presented to Vishnu
  • After presenting to Vishnu, it is also given to Matsya fasting person to break the Fast. 
  • In charity, new clothes and a fish dish is given to deservers to seek the blessings of Vishnu.
