Nagula Chavithi is a festival arranged in Karthik for worshipping various forms of snakes. This festival is also called Nag day as Nag God is glorified. Puja ritual is also offered to Nag; for this purpose, idols of snakes are decorated with ornaments and garlands. Garlands used for the decoration of Nag are made of yellow flowers. Various people arrange Naga Puja on this day, especially women, for the long life of Children.
Significant points related to Nagula Chavithi
- There are various snake God forms, and Vishnu and Shiva are included. Due to this reason, the snake idols are attached to the heroes of Shiva and Vishnu.
- The snake form of Shiva is called Naga Bhusan, while the snake shape of Vishnu is called Shesha Thalpa. In addition, this festival is essential for worshipping snake forms of Ganesha and Kumra.
- The snake type of Ganesha is named Naga Yajnopavetha, while the Muruga snake form is called Naga Swarupa. These are well decorated on this gala day, and Puja worship is offered to them.
Ritulas performed on Nagula Chavithi
Naga worshipper has to get up in the morning to bathe and wear clean clothes. Putta is visited after bathing, and Bhog is offered to snakes there. For the Puja act, Naga idols are washed at Ganga edges and taken to any temple where they are placed in the upper temple place for the Puja act. In Puja bowls, various food products are added, and among those products, Thamboolam and KumKum are prominent.
