Pongal

The event on which the Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the southern part of india is called Pongal. In 2024, this event will be held on the 14th of January and concluded on the 17th of January. One who celebrates the festival will find changes in his life. Various crops are cut during this event, like rice crops etc. According to the Tamil calendar, it is celebrated in Thai month. Due to this event, Thai month is also included in the holy months of the Tamil calendar.

The life of the event celebrating peoples changes from bad to good. All the negative impacts of life are removed from life, and a feeling of spiritual peace is gained by it. It is also a significant event from the marriage point of view. The engaged couples got married on this day, and the engagement ceremonies also happened on the event’s third day. Four days of celebrations on Ponga

• The worshipped God on the first day of the event is called Indra. According to the Tamils, all the rain on earth is due to the Indra. To appreciate the rain feature of God, special thanks are paid to him on the festival’s first day. 
• The Puja and prayers on the festival’s second day referred to the Sun to pay thanks for lighting the whole universe. The clothes are gifted to the Sun God, and Sun Puja is offered to pay thanks. Decorated dishes having banana leaves ad coconut are also awarded to Sun God. 
• O the Third day, Mata is worshipped, and flower garlands are presented to the Mata. The event’s last day is proposed as Knau. On the last day, the rice dish is cooked and presented to the family members. As the dish is cooked, the turmeric leaves are taken from the turmeric plant, and the rice dish is served to all family members on these leaves.
