Thai Pooyam is the festival of Hindus celebrated among the people of the Tamil Hindus community in the holy month of Thai. All Indians of India do not mark it; only a few Indians who belonged to the Tamil community arranged it with great devotion. The city in which it is primarily celebrated is called Sri Lanka, as the Hindus belong to the Tamil community of Hindus. Worshipped God in this event is called Murugan, and his worship is arranged in the Tamil Hindu temples.
Significance related to Thai Pooyam
This day is significant for the worship of various gods, and the ceremonies are arranged related to pay thanks to the gods for their blessings. The prominent God is Murugan, and the worshipped Goddess is called Parwati. A ceremony is organized in which special thanks are offered to the Murugan as he is the God who fulfills all the desires of his worshippers. Murugan Puja is placed in the Vishnu temples, and Parwati art is displayed in front of Murugan.
Celebrations of Thai Pooyam
At this festival, the flowers are offered to Murugan as a gift, and his idols are decorated with yellow and orange flowers. Various fruits were placed in the basket, and devoters took those baskets to the Murugan temple to divide fruits among celebrators. Bamboo sticks are decorated with flowers and clothes as it is considered the vehicle of Murugan and Puja. It is also offered after the primary Puja of Murugan and Parwati.
