Thulam Sankramam

Thulam Sankramam is a Hinds festival celebrated in respect of the Sun, also called Tula Sankranti. It marks the sun transition as Sun moves from one Rashi to enter the other. Rashi, which Sun leaves, is called Kanya Rashi, and the Rashi in which Sun enters is called Tula Rashi. Due to the entry of the Sun in Tula Rashi, it is called Tula Sankranti. In 2022, it was celebrated on the 17th of October.
Vishnu Puja on Thulam Sankramam
To offer Puja to Vishnu, a bath named Sankranam Snan is taken, and Paryana named Stotra Paryana is performed. After performing bathing and Paryana, performers come to Vishnu temple for the Puja act. Vishnu Idols are washed at Ganga and Yamuna, and garlands are presented to Vishnu idols. Puja bowls are also washed in Ganga to get them holy, and Tulsi seeds are added. At the End of Puja, Bhog is distributed among all celebrators by Puja performers.
Rituals performed on Thulam Sankramam
- Lakshmi and Parwati are taken in Vishnu Manders for offering worship in the form of Puja to them.
- According to the old ritual, this day is celebrated to end the effects of famines and bring God blessings.
- Rice grains and nuts, along with beetle leaves, are presented to Lakshmi to get his blessings.
- In the temples of Vishnu, Parwati, and Lakshmi, prayers are presented for Good luck and prosperity.
- Coconuts are taken to the temple and presented to Parwati for Parwati blessings. In addition, coconuts are served to Poors as a charity activity of Sankranti.
