Varaha Jayanthi

Varaha Jayanthi is the festival of Hindus celebrated in the birthday honour of Varaha. Varaha is Vishnu’s most worshipped avatar form, and it has powers like Vishnu. This day is also arranged in honour of Vishnu, as some Vishnu lovers believe that Vishnu took birth on this festival day. Vishnu and his avatar, Varaha idols, are worshipped in the Vishnu temple to reward their care for all Hindus. 

Ritualistic acts on Varaha Jayanthi

• A metal pot named Kalash is used to place the idols of Varaha, and water is filled in the Kalash.
• After placing Varaha in the Kalash, coconut is given to Varaha as a gift and to Brahmins as a charity product. 
• Mango leaves are taken from the mango garden for wrapping Kalash in it. Bhagwad Gita is recited after it. 
• Varaha fast is offered in honour of Varaha, and the fast offering person has to give new clothes to people experiencing poverty as a charity product. 
• For the blessings of Vishnu, Prayers are offered to him in his temple by placing his idols in front. 

Celebrations on Varaha Jayanthi

Idols of Varaha are taken to the Ganga for the bathing act. Vishnu and Varaha bath is necessary on this Jayanti; otherwise, worship would not be accepted. After the bathing act, Sandalwood paste would be given to Varaha, and lamps would be lit before the Puja act. In the recitation ceremony, Varaha Satotra is recited, and Varaha Kavach is recited after the recitation of Varaha Satotra.
