Vinayaki Chaturthi

Vinayaka Chaturthi is a significant Hindu festival that celebrates Lord Ganesha, one of the most beloved deities in the Hindu pantheon. It is observed on the fourth day of the Hindu lunar month of Shravan, and devotees observe a fast on this day to seek Ganesha’s blessings for success and salvation. The Puja performed in Ganesha temples on this day is called Vinayaka Puja.

The importance of Vinayaki Chaturthi

Ganesha, also known as Pratham Pujya, is worshipped first before any other deity, and his blessings are sought to overcome various obstacles in life. Some people even refer to Ganesha as Vighnaharta, meaning the remover of obstacles.

On Vinayaka Chaturthi, devotees typically wear new clothes after bathing in a holy river and visit a nearby Ganesha temple to offer Puja to the deity. Lighting a Diya and offering flowers are essential parts of the Puja ritual. Durva, a type of grass, is considered to be Lord Ganesha’s favorite food, and it is also offered to him during the Puja.

Routine acts on Vinayaki Chaturthi

While performing the Puja, devotees recite the Ganesha Mantra and listen to the Ganesha Katha. Additionally, on the night of the festival, a moon-worshipping ceremony is performed after all the Ganesha worship is completed.

The fast concludes with the consumption of Satvik meal items, including dishes made from milk and fried food. Overall, Vinayaka Chaturthi is a joyous celebration that allows devotees to express their love and devotion to Lord Ganesha while seeking his blessings for success and happiness in life.
