April 23, 2023 @ 7:17 am - April 24, 2023 @ 7:54 am IST
Vinayaka Chaturthi is considered as one of the most significant festivals among Hindus. It is celebrated in the month of Shravan, where devotees bring various forms of Lord Ganesha to the temple and offer prayers for success and salvation. The festival is also known as Vinayaka Puja, which involves performing Puja in the Ganesha temples.
The importance of Vinayaki Chaturthi
The significance of Vinayaka Chaturthi lies in the fact that Lord Ganesha is regarded as the ‘Pratham Pujya’ and is worshipped first. It is believed that by offering prayers to him, one can overcome various obstacles in life, and he blesses the worshippers and their families. Some people also observe a fast in honor of Lord Ganesha, whom they call ‘Vighnaharta.’
Routine acts on Vinayaki Chaturthi
On this auspicious day, devotees wear new and clean clothes after bathing in a holy river and visit the nearby Ganesha temple. The essential activity of the day is offering Puja to the Ganesha idol by lighting a Diya and presenting flowers. The offering of Durva, which is Lord Ganesha’s favorite food, is also considered an essential part of the Puja.
While performing the Puja, devotees recite the Ganesha Mantra and repeat the Ganesha Katha after completing the Mantra recitation. After worshipping Lord Ganesha, devotees also perform the Moon worshipping ceremony on the night of the gala. The fast ends with a Satvik meal, including fried and milk-made products.
