Vinayaki Chaturthi

Vinayaka Chaturthi is one of the most important festivals among Hindus. It is celebrated in the month of Shravan, and devotees offer prayers and fast for the success and well-being of their family. The festival revolves around Lord Ganesha, and various Ganesha avatar forms are worshipped in temples on this day. The Puja of this festival is known as Vinayaka Puja.

The importance of Vinayaki Chaturthi

The significance of Vinayaka Chaturthi lies in the fact that Lord Ganesha is considered to be the first and foremost deity to be worshipped before any other deity. He is known as ‘Pratham Pujya’ and is believed to bless his devotees with success and solve all their problems. Some people also refer to him as ‘Vighnaharta,’ which means the remover of obstacles.

Routine acts on Vinayaki Chaturthi

On this day, devotees typically wear new clothes after taking a holy bath and visit the nearest Ganesh temple to offer Puja. They light Diyas and offer flowers to Ganesha idols, with Durva being a favorite food item of Lord Ganesha. Devotees recite Ganesha Mantras and repeat the Ganesha Katha after the recitation of the Mantras.

After completing the Ganesha Puja, devotees also worship the moon, which is known as ‘Chandra Darshan.’ The fast is concluded with a Satvik meal that includes fried and milk-based products.

Overall, Vinayaka Chaturthi is a significant festival that celebrates the divine powers of Lord Ganesha and is considered to be an auspicious day for seeking his blessings for success and prosperity in life.
