Yama Dwitiya

Yama Dwitiya is the Hindu gala celebrated in honor of Yamraj. Yamraj is considered Death God. Tithi related to it is called Dewatiya Tithi. Yama Doots is presented to Yamraj, and the Chitragupta is worshipped on this festival while offering Puja to Yamraj. The Yamraj idols are washed, and prayers are given to them after washing them in the holy river. Before this festival, Diwali Puja is performed. 

Yama Dwitiya (Significance)

This day is also celebrated as the Bhai Dooj, as both are related events. As the day starts, brothers have to go to the sisters’ homes, offering gifts to them. Temples are also decorated where all the girls and boys in a sister-brother relationship move to the temple and offer worship to gods. As a reward for prayer, they receive blessings like salvation, prosperity, and great wealth. New clothes are gifted to Vishnu for Vishnu’s benefit, and Parwati is decorated as the sisters offer Puja to her. 

Yama Dwitiya (rituals) 

This day marks the worship of Yamrja as he is worshipped on this day. After offering worship to Yamraj, the sister takes Tilak to the temple to apply it to their brothers. Sisters offer prayers to Yamraj to get Yamraj blessings for their brothers. Brothers offer prayers to Yamraja to get Yamraj blessings for the sisters. In addition, sisters decorate their homes to welcome their brothers. Gifts are also shared between each other, and Puja is presented to Yamraj and Vishnu for their blessings.
